Re-platform and support of multiple legacy applications

Re-platform and support of multiple legacy applications

Introduction

NashTech worked with Atlanta to schedule and execute the deployment of the new code into the target data centre/Azure environment for acceptance testing and then go-live. Following the successful migration, NashTech took on the BAU support and maintenance of the Prospero applications to ensure they remain current and fit for the market.

About Atlanta

The Atlanta Group is one of the largest and fastest-growing brokers in the UK insurance market. Made up of multi-brand digital platforms, and leveraging advanced consumer data and pricing analytics, they have secured their position as the industry leading digital broker. Atlanta incorporates the well-known and much respected Swinton, Autonet and Carole Nash brands

The challenge

Atlanta needed to move all Swinton applications into a new hybrid data centre on an Azure cloud environment. However, a big obstacle was a group of business – critical legacy applications collectively known as “Prospero,” for which the internal team didn’t have any documentation or knowledge.

Our approach

NashTech applied our proven knowledge capture and transition approach to the 14 Prospero .NET applications, using a 15-step process, to study both the existing architecture and the code for each application in order to create a tailored plan.

The applications were documented, the source code was moved to a target environment, a CI/CD pipeline was created, and the code was re-architected and upgraded from legacy versions to current versions of ASP .NET Core, Angular, Identity Server, IIS and SQL Server.

The solution

NashTech worked with Atlanta to schedule and execute the deployment of the new code into the target data centre/Azure environment for acceptance testing and then go-live.

Following the successful migration, NashTech took on the BAU support and maintenance of the Prospero applications to ensure they remain current and fit for the market.

The outcome

The programme eradicated the risks (downtime, instability, performance, lack of IT knowledge) of using legacy technologies and unmaintained code.

NashTech has successfully delivered many important enhancements to the Prospero applications including a very urgent request to move the payment provider.

“The Prospero application is a huge income stream for Atlanta and we needed to ensure its safety and stability. NashTech did not just assist us in upgrading the services, but also provided us with full documentation of the estate and due to their excellence in this space they now manage the application for us via an AMS agreement. Without NashTech this would never have been possible and they managed a huge risk for us as an organisation and protected a solid income stream, currently consisting of 185,000 customers, for the Atlanta group.”
