NashTech joins leading industry partners as a Silver member of the Rust Foundation
Today we’re excited to share that NashTech is joining leading industry partners as a Silver member of the Rust Foundation, a new independent organisation established to steward the Rust programming language and ecosystem and support Rust’s maintainers. NashTech is committed to sustaining and growing the Rust open source ecosystem and community alongside their fellow members. We look forward to collaborating with the Rust community to improve the Rust language, provide tooling and library support, creating learning resources, and more.
NashTech has embraced Rust since 2019 and implemented it in all aspects of development, from source control to compilers, “We are proud to be on board at the Rust Foundation”. We are joining the Rust Foundation to help contribute to, improve and grow this language that has become so valuable to developers and us around the world. We look forward to participating with the other foundation members and the Rust community to make Rust a mainstream language of choice for systems programming and beyond.
NashTech manages RustTimes, a bi-weekly newsletter that includes articles on trending Rust topics, job updates, event updates and releases. We are also organising a Rust Enthusiasts group on LinkedIn, where we post updates of Rust programming through our blogs, poll questions, case studies, events, etc. Till now, we have released 60+ issues of RustTimes.
NashTech always tries to contribute to the community by making OS contributions, organising and participating in conferences/meetups and developing and hosting a repository of ready to use software resources for bootstrapping the projects called Techhub, where we submit learning templates (readymade templates on different features) of Rust programming and xlr8rs (where we share business problems and their solutions) to share our knowledge with the external community.
NashTech also participated in RustLab2020, where we delivered a conference on a compelling feature called Async/Await. NashTech has experimented with Rust in embedded, networking, CLI, blockchain and web assembly.
Currently, we are doing multiple POCs on STM32F3 Discovery Microcontroller by accessing its components like sensors (extracting reading of sensors), LEDs (turning on/off with different ways), communication with the microcontroller (includes I2C), etc.
NashTech has leveraged Rust in some of its critical projects, the major ones are – Kerb – a full-scale application that combines machine learning analytics and real-time data sets for targeted marketing campaigns in urban areas (we leveraged Rust here for various device-level services to capturing the data as well as edge computing to make it near real-time), Polkadex– a dedicated blockchain for decentralised exchange, which is purpose-built and configured to optimise the performance of DEXs. Polkadex solves the problem of low liquidity by having AMMs directly connected to its trading engine. Polkadex parachain will have just one functionality to bridge liquidity to and from Polkadot to Polkadex (built on parity substrate and Rust), PreMonR – A reactive platform for full-scale monitoring of all the deployments (Rust is used here to build highly performant low-level agents for capturing the metrics and logs).
About Rust Foundation
The Rust Foundation was established in February with initial backing from Amazon Web Services, Google, Huawei, Microsoft, and Mozilla. Microsoft is exploring Rust for some components of Windows and Azure, while Google is using Rust to build new parts of the Android operating system and supporting an effort to bring Rust to the Linux kernel.
